On Saturday night, a strong explosion was reported on General Carrillo Street in the El Carmen neighborhood, in the municipality of Remedios, Villa Clara, with no reported fatalities or injuries.
"On the night of this Saturday, the 17th, an explosion occurred in a house located on General Carrillo Avenue in #NuestroRemedios. The public is informed that there are no injuries," they wrote on the Facebook profile "Nuestro Remedios."
They also noted that "forces from the Ministry of the Interior, firefighters, and personnel from SIUM" were present at the site.
The mentioned source added that the causes of the incident were being investigated.
However, Niover Licea on her Instagram profile noted that the explosion was due to a power plant located on the third floor of the house, next to some fuel canisters, and it was in use because there was no electricity in the neighborhood.
In the comments of the publication from the profile "Nuestro Remedios," several internet users also confirmed this situation.
A user pointed out that “there were no serious injuries, but there was damage to the roofs of two nearby houses and to the one affected by the explosion of the power plant.”
Meanwhile, another user described it as "a big explosion, it sounded like thunder."
Similarly, a neighbor from the area recounted that she lives a block away from the site of the incident and “my roof shook, I was lying down and dirt fell from the ceiling.”
Another person added that there were two babies sleeping in the house at the time of the explosion.
"I heard the explosion, but I thought it was a mortar or something like that," explained an internet user.
Last Wednesday, the explosion of an electric motorcycle in a house in the Luyanó neighborhood of the Diez de Octubre municipality in Havana resulted in four fatalities, including a one-year-old baby, and a thirteen-year-old girl who was seriously injured.
According to neighbors, in the house where the explosion occurred, located at number 203 on Marqués de la Torre street, there were two scooters. One of them stayed charging overnight and shortly after seven in the morning, it exploded.
Despite the neighbors trying to help rescue the inhabitants of the place, the front door was locked with a gate and padlock, making access impossible. "They got trapped," lamented one of those who came to assist.
