Cuban in the United States: "Being a newcomer is no reason to denigrate people."

Although her video has mostly provoked messages of support, some confessed that they do not understand her logic.

Cuban content creator Edgy, who has lived in the United States for more than two years, responded on TikTok to a comment labeling him a 'newcomer' unaware after he mentioned that he shops at Aldi.

"In the first place, Aldi is not a long-standing market. Do your research before making a video. It's clear that you haven't been in the USA for long," was the comment left for him that sparked his video, where Edgy - who lives in Nebraska - responded by stating that he would have never imagined that "the worst enemy of a Cuban is another Cuban."

In his words, this young Cuban also defended his decision to shop at economical places, arguing that saving should not be a source of shame but a way to achieve goals in a country full of opportunities. “Being a newcomer is not a reason to denigrate people,” commented @edgy.mp3, emphasizing that all Cubans should be happy for those who manage to reach a country of freedoms.

His opinion has generated support from the community of followers, many of whom shared similar experiences and expressed their solidarity with him. “I have been living in the United States for 18 years and I also shop at Aldi”; “Sure, keep shopping at Aldi, here in Spain I buy there and their products are very good”; “In this country, saving is key to achieving our goals, and no one should feel bad about it”; “But even the gringos shop at Aldi”; “Don’t fight it, you’re doing fine, if you see where I shop you’d have a heart attack, money can’t be wasted”; “Saving is the sowing of a better future”; “I am an American citizen and I shop at Aldi”; “There’s no worse splinter than the one from your own stick”; “The worst enemy of a Cuban is another Cuban”; “Here there are people who can’t even buy because they can’t afford it”; “That’s right, we hurt each other”; “Don’t pay attention to the ignorant”; “That’s right, my friend, in this country, they criticize you for everything, especially among Cubans,” some said.

However, not all reactions were positive: “Aldi is horrible”; “I don’t understand your logic. Who told you that Aldi is for poor people? Those places aren’t even cheap. So, you want to make people believe you’re humble?”; “Come on with the land of freedom, here you will be a modern slave... Welcome”; “Your logic doesn’t make sense. Saving is fine, but wanting to justify it as something more is unnecessary,” others commented.

The intense debate that has arisen in the comments makes it clear that this Cuban's message has resonated with many. Although there were criticisms of his perspective, many others showed support and highlighted the importance of maintaining humility and financial intelligence, without being swayed by appearances.
