A Cuban woman known as Mayi was brutally attacked by her ex-partner in the El Bodegón shopping center in Artemisa, where she worked.

According to eyewitnesses, the attacker began the assault by delivering several punches to the victim, then hitting her with a chair and finally dragging her out of the establishment and stabbing her, reported the Cuban Institute for Freedom of the Press (ICLEP).

The incident, which occurred last Monday, left the woman seriously injured; however, she was quickly taken to the local hospital where she was stabilized, reported Caridad González Piloto, a neighbor of the victim.

She said that the woman is currently out of danger and reported as stable.

Reports from ICLEP indicate that the attacker, who had previously served time for murder and for prior assaults on Mayi, was on probation at the time of the attack.

This case is not isolated, as a similar event occurred on the same day in Santiago de Cuba.

Dargis Vargas Ferrer, a 28-year-old woman, was attacked with a machete by her ex-husband in front of her young daughter in her own home. The victim had previously reported the aggressor for threats. Dargis is reported to be in serious condition in the hospital, according to ICLEP.
