Cuban raft boat found abandoned on the coast of Mexico

The small boat, named Danay, arrived on the eastern coast of Isla Mujeres on Tuesday evening.

Mexican authorities reported the discovery of a boat with abandoned Cuban rafters on the coast.

The incident occurred in Isla Mujeres, very close to the Yucatán Peninsula, in the southeast of the country.

According to a report on Facebook from the profile "Isla Mujeres al Momento Noticias," the vessel arrived on Tuesday evening on the eastern coast of the island.

"It is believed that it was used by Cuban rafters who managed to evade the authorities," adds the note.

The shared video shows a small roofed boat named Danay.

Attempts by Cubans to reach the United States or Mexico by sea continue, despite the risk they face of being returned to their country.

Last week, a group of 31 rafters, including a minor, was intercepted in the waters of Quintana Roo while attempting to reach Mexico in a precarious vessel.

The migrants: nine women, 21 men, and one minor were on board a small vessel with an inboard motor that was left adrift about 222 kilometers north of Isla Mujeres. Fortunately, all were in good health.

At the end of July, the Isla Mujeres Police detained 11 Cuban rafters who were traveling in a public transport vehicle after arriving in the country on an improvised boat.

The migrants disembarked after a dangerous maritime journey and tried to enter the territory through the Punta Sam area, but they were intercepted at one of the local police checkpoints.
