A 33-year-old Cuban was arrested following the media attention received by a video in which he was seen kicking a dog in a building in northwest Miami-Dade.

The assailant was identified as Richel Yumar González, 33 years old, and for many, the most contradictory thing is that he is a pet groomer.

González was released on Thursday from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after paying a $500 bail, Local 10 reported.

The incident that led him to prison and for which he also lost his job occurred last week in a residential building located in the Jade Winds complex, at 1770 NE 191 St., in the Ojus area of Miami-Dade.

In the video, recorded by a surveillance camera, he is seen kicking a small white dog twice. He was wearing a t-shirt from the company "Deluxe Mobile Grooming Company," based in Hialeah.

After the incident was reported, the county police launched an investigation that concluded when the Cuban turned himself in and confessed his responsibility.

Deluxe... issued a statement of apology in which it stated that it does not condone animal mistreatment and announced measures against the employee. The owner, named Yosuan Rodríguez, informed Local 10 that immediately after learning of the incident, he fired González and will take legal action against him. His business has declined, and he has received death threats against him and his family.

"I have no idea why he did what he did," said Yosuan, who reported that he sent screenshots to the abuser and asked him if he really had hit the dog. "He said yes, that was it," he emphasized.

González must answer criminally for tormenting "unnecessarily" "any animal in a cruel or inhumane manner," a first-degree misdemeanor that is punishable by imprisonment, a fine, or both.

The beaten pet is a female, a mix of Maltese and Shih Tzu, named Coco. Her owner said she showed changes in behavior, but the veterinarian certified that she did not suffer any injuries.
