They report an eviction attempt in a family dispute over a house in Cuba.

The family is experiencing a tense situation due to a long-standing dispute over the ownership of a house.

A Cuban family is facing tense moments due to an alleged attempt of illegal eviction, triggered by a long-standing conflict over the ownership of a home, as publicly reported by Carlos Yordano Sánchez.

"I am posting this because it is a problem that has affected my family for five years, a matter that I find disgraceful and very unpleasant. It all started when my grandmother Valentina, who lived in my mother's house, decided to move out on March 7, 2019. Now, she has filed a lawsuit against my mom, who is the rightful owner of the property," Sánchez commented on the social network Facebook.

The problem is aggravated by the alleged involvement of a prosecutor named Gabriel, who has threatened to take away his mother's house using his influence and power. "Gabriel, in his own words, said he was going to take my mom's house and that nothing would happen to him because he is a prosecutor. With that confidence, he broke into the house, broke doors and windows, and stole several belongings, including legal documents of ownership," he added.

The situation worsened when, despite witnesses confirming that Sánchez's stepfather had not committed the vandalism, he was arrested by the police while Gabriel continued to face no legal consequences.

"More than three months have passed since that incident, and Gabriel has not been arrested or taken to trial. The worst part is that my mom, out of fear of Gabriel's power, has decided to leave the house, even though legally she shouldn't have had to do so," Sánchez denounced.

"Actions have still not been taken, and there are more people involved helping Gabriel continue to commit illegal acts. The worst part is that we cannot be by my mom's side to support her," concluded Sánchez, making a call for solidarity and the dissemination of the case.

In 2023, the Cuban government tightened legal tools for the eviction of people who illegally occupy state housing or properties, a phenomenon that has increased amid the housing crisis on the island and the migratory exodus.

The People's Supreme Court published in the Official Gazette Opinion 471 of 2023, which contains the "Guidelines on how to proceed in the event of the crime of Usurpation under Article 421 of the Penal Code."
