Shocked by the horrendous crime that has shaken all of Cuba this weekend, the residents of Ceballos, in Ciego de Ávila, said their final goodbye this Sunday to the four murder victims: a child, a teenager, and the mothers of both.
Videos uploaded to social media show the funeral procession that took the bodies of Richard Dariel Núñez, four years old; Lester Rivadeneira Rodríguez, 17; Yamila Reyes Tamayo, 29; and Raysa Rodríguez Pérez de Corcho, 50, to the local cemetery. They were murdered on the morning of this Saturday during an alleged attempted robbery at a home.
Residents of the locality accompanied family members, friends, and loved ones of the deceased in the funeral procession through the streets of Ceballos.
Meanwhile, this Sunday three suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in the multiple murder, according to the independent newspaper CubaNet.
The police arrested brothers Luis Enrique and Leudys Romero Daudinot, and Esney Fonseca Sánchez, who are allegedly involved in the crime.
So far, the Cuban authorities have not published official information about arrests related to the brutal incident, which has plunged two Cuban families and an entire community into mourning.
The events occurred in the "old bakery" neighborhood of Ceballos, between six and seven in the morning this Saturday. According to a neighbor speaking to CubaNet, the thieves remained hidden in an abandoned house across from the home where they committed the crime.
They waited for the father of one of the families to leave for work on his farm, in order to enter the property presumably to steal money obtained from his sales.
In the house were his wife and their young son, who were stabbed to death by the criminals.
According to testimonies from the victims' relatives, in response to the mother's and child's cry for help, a neighbor and her teenage son came to assist, and they were also killed.
The crime has raised a wave of indignation and rejection in the locality and throughout Cuban society, which lives in fear due to the unstoppable rise of violence in the country and the inefficacy of the authorities to stop it.
