A Cuban worker from the Engineering Construction Company No. 6 (Ecoing-6) identified as Raymundo Narciso Sarría was the fatal victim of an accident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the Cementos Cienfuegos S.A. factory.
A note from the officialist newspaper Granma states that the man died due to a material spill in one of the hoppers of this factory.
Sarría, 61 years old, worked as an electrician, stated Telecentro Perlavisión.
The media reported that Dionel Figueroa Calunga, 52 years old, was in extremely critical condition, with burns on 70 percent of his body.
The worker Francisco Díaz Urquiza is in very serious condition, while Hermes Rojas Campos is in serious condition.
Carlos Aguilar Sabina and Alexei Aguilar Valdés were reported to be less severely injured, the newspaper stated.
The victims of this accident are being treated in the Burn Unit of the Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Provincial Hospital.
The causes of the accident at Cementos Cienfuegos S.A. are being investigated by the authorities.
A few weeks ago, it was revealed that deaths from workplace accidents in Cuba increased in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, despite the total number of incidents decreasing by 3.8% during that time.
Although the variation in absolute numbers was only two people - 25 fatalities this year compared to 23 in 2023 - the percentage represented an 8.7% increase.
Between January and June of this year, 851 workplace accidents were recorded.
