A truck loaded with liquid detergent overturns in Holguin.

A video showed the action of police officers and firefighters at the scene, who directed traffic and sprayed the spilled liquid from the truck with water hoses, causing foam on the road.


A truck allegedly carrying liquid detergent crashed this Saturday and ended up overturned on a road in Holguín.

Images shared through the Facebook group 'Accidentes Buses & Camiones' showed a Soviet-made ZIL truck overturned on the Mayarí highway.

Mayarí Road, Holguín, Los Haticos. “I do not know the causes," indicated a user from this group, who shared photographs of the accident, which occurred at the height of the Los Haticos People's Council, belonging to the municipality of Báguanos.

A video shared through the mentioned group showed the action of police officers and firefighters at the scene, who regulated traffic and sprayed the spilled liquid from the truck with water hoses, causing foam on the road.

"That car belongs to UCM [University of Medical Sciences], I think. It was loaded with liquid detergent," a user commented on the Facebook post.

The occupants of the vehicle that passed through the area and recorded the video also mentioned that the liquid spilled from the truck was detergent. This publication has not been able to confirm the details of an event that has not been reported by either the authorities or the official press.

At the time of writing this note, the health status of the driver of the vehicle is unknown, nor whether they were accompanied by other individuals. There are no reported injuries in the incident.

The serious socioeconomic crisis affecting Cuba means that these types of accidents have a costly impact on the lives of the population, which is suffering from a shortage of detergent and other hygiene and personal care products.

At the end of May 2020, a sad spectacle of desperation could be seen in a photo shared on the social network Facebook. The image showed a group of Cubans picking up spilled detergent on a street in Havana.

According to the author of the publication, the incident occurred on Calzada de Güines, in the San Miguel del Padrón municipality. During the transportation of bulk detergent, some containers accidentally overturned, causing a commotion.

At the beginning of May this year, a truck loaded with wheat flour had an accident and ended up overturned on the Central Highway, near Las Tunas, spilling its load on the asphalt. There were no human lives lost in the incident.

Images shared on social media showed the condition in which the vehicle was left, a Soviet-made ZIL 130 truck, which ended up completely overturned with its wheels pointing towards the sky.
