Cuban mother seeks justice for her son's death in a traffic accident in Miami

The young man who passed away was 22 years old.

A mother of Cuban origin is asking for justice for the death of her eldest son, who died in early August in a traffic accident.

On August 6, the young Alexander Jesús Moya, 22 years old, allegedly fell from his scooter and was subsequently run over by a vehicle. The incident occurred near the entrance ramp to Interstate 95 heading north from U.S. 441.

However, the young man's mother complains that the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) employee who informed her about the death only told her that her son had fallen off his scooter and that he had suffered fatal injuries.

"This is a pain that I don't want anyone else to experience," said the Cuban, visibly distressed, in statements to the local press.

"I want justice. Why did they leave him there like a dog? [...] I know nothing will bring him back, but I am seeking to know exactly what happened," he emphasized.

A witness recorded a video showing Moya on the ground and a driver who stopped after hitting him, standing nearby.

The Cuban mother says that when she saw the video, she knew that the FHP agent had lied to her by omission, and she felt betrayed both by the FHP and by the driver who ran over her son, who later abandoned the scene.

"I understand that accidents happen, and I forgive him, but I do not forgive him for leaving it there," said the woman.

"He was special. He was my son, he was my best friend. I was his best friend. I had him at a young age, so at some point we grew up together," she lamented.

It is a sad coincidence that the mother of the deceased young man is the wife of the Cuban activist and opponent Esteban Rodríguez, who has also demanded justice for his stepson on his social media.

"I ask all my friends and everyone to share this news. The driver who hit my wife's oldest son left the scene of the accident. This coward needs to be found; our family demands justice and that measures be taken against this coward. #Justice," wrote Esteban.

In another post, the family stated that the forensic office determined that the young man died from a blunt force injury, which indicates that he died from an impact caused by a tractor-trailer, that is, a trailer.

"I have a witness who saw the driver talking to another truck driver who was also there and then left. I need you to share the news. I already have the cause of death; now I need the heartless son of a b... who caused it to come forward and left him lying there like a dog. And everyone who knew Alex knows he didn’t deserve to die like that," the young man's mother cried out on social media.

The family paid tribute to the young man who passed away on the beach.

Anny Rodríguez has made heartbreaking posts on Facebook in recent days in which she has expressed her pain while pleading for justice.

In one of those posts, the grieving mother shared a snippet of the last conversation she had with her son via WhatsApp.
