The accident occurred on Fifth Avenue, at the height of 110 and 112, near Coney Island, and the motorcycle involved was an AX100.

The circumstances of the accident are not clear, as some reports suggest that he was hit by a car that fled the scene, while others say that the driver of the light vehicle crashed into a tree while talking on the phone.

"Rest in peace. The driver died at the scene; according to witnesses, he was talking on the phone and lost control in the curve, projecting the motorcycle against a tree. Once again, we must mourn human losses, but we need to take maturity and seriousness in vehicle operation," wrote Leonel Puerto in the Facebook group/Accidentes Buses & Camiones.

"I went by very early and Criminalistics was already there. The body of the deceased was covered, there was quite a bit of blood on the divider, but no car or other vehicle in sight. Apparently, he took the curve too quickly and either fell and died, or crashed into some bushes. I don’t know, this is just my assumption from what I saw, but it does seem that he was the only one who died," explained Yusniel Benítez.

However, in another post, a user pointed to the version of the car that escaped from the scene.

"Is there any news about the accident in front of Coney Island, where a green 'almendrón' crashed into a motorcycle, and a young man was lying on the grass? The motorcycle looked really bad, almost completely destroyed," asked the internet user Maribel R. Rodríguez.

There was also someone who said that the car was white.

In any case, several internet users agreed that it is an area with a good number of surveillance cameras, which is why they do not believe it would be difficult to identify if another car was truly involved in the accident.

There were those who said that this is only true if the car involved in the accident does not belong to someone important, considering the area where the accident occurred.

Although several commentators said that motorcycle circulation is prohibited on Fifth Avenue, others corrected them and stated that from 112 to 120 the avenue has secondary lanes where motorcycles can indeed circulate.

Images shared in Facebook groups have shown the body covered with a black plastic, as well as police and forensic personnel at the scene.

As of the closing of this report, there are no further details about the incident, nor is the identity of the deceased victim known.

In recent weeks, a growing number of serious accidents have been reported across the country, unfortunately many of them with fatal outcomes.

In one of the most recent incidents, another young motorist died instantly on Sunday in Boyeros, also in Havana, following a fatal accident that did not involve any other vehicles.

Although the population perceives an increase in traffic accidents in recent months, Cuban authorities stated in early July that in the first half of 2024, 543 fewer incidents were recorded in the country compared to the same period last year.

In the official television program Mesa Redonda, Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Traffic Organ of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), also reported that there were 81 fewer fatalities (23%) and a reduction of 151 injuries (5%) between January and June of this year, compared to the same period in 2023.
