Fort Lauderdale has the slowest TSA security lines in the U.S., with average waits of 15 minutes. MIA also faces significant delays.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has reached a sad record. It is the airport with the slowest security lines in all of the United States.

A recent study conducted by SOAX, and cited by several media outlets in Florida, determined that passengers at this airport spend an average of 15 minutes and 27 seconds in the line for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) before reaching the boarding gates.

This waiting time is significantly longer than that of other major airports in the country, even surpassing Los Angeles and New York.

Despite being a smaller and more manageable terminal compared to Miami International Airport (MIA), Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood tops the list of prolonged waits, which represents an additional annoyance for travelers.

This problem adds to the already complicated reputation of the institution, which also tops the list of airports with the most delays in travel across the country, with 32% of its flights taking off late in 2023.

On the other hand, Miami International Airport, although it does not top the list for security wait times, is not far behind in technical issues.

MIA ranks as the sixth airport with the highest rate of flight delays in the United States, with 25.5% of its departures occurring later than scheduled.

Despite handling a much larger volume of passengers, MIA seems to be better prepared for TSA wait times compared to its neighbor in Fort Lauderdale.

The outlook at Florida airports is not encouraging, and travelers should prepare for possible delays, both in the security line and in their flights.

While Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood receives funding to improve its facilities, the reality is that, for now, flying from this airport can be a frustrating experience for residents of Miami and the surrounding areas.
