Authorities reopened the southbound lanes of Interstate I-95 in Miami-Dade early this Monday morning, after they had been closed for more than 12 hours due to a serious accident.

Thousands of people were stranded on Sunday afternoon on the I-95 highway after an incident involving a fuel tanker, which caused the complete closure of the southbound lanes and generated a significant traffic jam around noon.

In images shared on Instagram by the account Only in Dade, several vehicles with significant damage can be seen, including a Lexus sedan, a red pickup truck, and an overturned tanker truck.

The incident occurred near Northwest 103rd Street, in Miami-Dade County, where all southbound lanes were closed due to the accident, which also involved at least two other vehicles.

Traffic cameras captured the most severe congestion around 1:00 p.m., according to local press reports.

Subsequently, they showed the southbound lanes empty, where only emergency crews were seen working on cleaning the area.

The Miami-Dade Fire Department reported a fuel spill on the highway, although no details have been provided about possible injuries or the exact circumstances of the accident.
