The Cuban Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, provided details on Tuesday in the Round Table about the importation of vehicles by Cuban mission workers abroad.
According to the head of the sector, Cubans working abroad in state missions, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and collaborators, among others, will be able to import – like the rest of the population – mopeds and internal combustion or hybrid motorcycles, with or without sidecars, both new and used (up to 10 years), up to 250 cc, and electric or hybrid tricycles with a capacity greater than two seats or for cargo, whether as unaccompanied luggage or as a shipment.
"These people will also be able to import mopeds and combustion motorcycles just like any other person, but they will also be able to directly import, and for one time only, an economy or mid-range car, new or used, of up to 10 years from the date of its manufacture, by paying the tariffs in convertible currency," he specified.
A novel aspect is that for the buyer to import the vehicle, they will have had to complete two years of continuous service; previously, it was mandatory to fulfill three years.
"Officials will have the option to buy the car in Cuba instead of importing it from abroad; in that case, they will be exempt from paying 100% of the special tax," Rodríguez Dávila clarified.
