A motorist sustained serious injuries after being hit by a car in the city of Santiago de Cuba, according to a report by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada.
"An accident occurred a few minutes ago on Santo Tomás Street, at the corner of Santa Rita, in the heart of Santiago de Cuba," wrote Mayeta Labrada on her Facebook profile.
According to the communicator who cited eyewitness sources of the accident, the driver of the car was the cause of the incident for having run the stop sign.
"The man fell unconscious, but when we lifted him, he woke up" and he had severe injuries and even blood, said one of the witnesses.
The injured person was taken to a hospital facility to receive medical attention according to their condition.
"I work near the place where the accident occurred, and cars and motorcycles fly by on that street and even lift the front tire," noted a user in the comments section.
"I have gone out several times on a motorcycle and on an electric scooter, and the truth is that in these last few days, people are driving like crazy, pedestrians walking in the middle of the street when there are sidewalks available, vehicles without brake lights or turn signals, crazy people parking to the left at traffic lights and then turning right. Cars that don't keep their distance, especially on the hills where there are traffic lights, it’s pure madness," recounted another user describing the situation in Santiago de Cuba.
The truth is that this province has been having a negative record of accidents in recent days.
Last Tuesday, two drivers were injured following the collision between a motorcycle and a motorbike on a central street in that eastern Cuban city.
On Wednesday, a passenger transport truck collided with a motorcycle.
Also, nine people were injured, two of them seriously, following a mass accident that occurred in the municipality of Palma Soriano.
