Yunier Fernández won Cuba's first gold medal in para table tennis at the Paralympic Games this Friday, and the island's delegation celebrated its fifth title in Paris 2024.

To highlight the result even more, it can be mentioned that it is the country's first title in this sport under the five rings, and the victory came by sweep over Robert Davies from Great Britain.

In the Arena South Paris, the Mayabeque athlete, in the SH1 category, was immense and achieved scores of 14-12, 11-7, and 11-4 to significantly improve his performance from Tokyo 2020, when he was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

At 41 years old, the medalist in all editions of the Parapan American Games since Rio de Janeiro 2007 achieved the best result of his career.

With that performance, Cuba rose to 22nd place in the overall standings, with a total of five gold medals, two silver, and one bronze in the Paris event.
