“No freedom”: Spanish economist and YouTuber harshly criticizes Cuba and explains why he wouldn’t visit it.

Spanish economist explains at an event in Mexico why he would never visit Cuba and criticizes the island's system.

The Spanish YouTuber and economist Antonini de Jiménez explained in a conference at the Ricardo Salinas Pliego Center in Mexico the reasons why he would never visit Cuba.

"Life expectancy in Cuba is certainly high, the universalization of education seems to be as well, healthcare, well..." he is heard saying in a video shared by Antonini himself on TikTok.

However, he points out that the problem of Cuba is that even if it were the first country in the world, in a hypothetical case, he would not go "because there is no freedom; education becomes instruction. Life expectancy, what good is it to live like an animal?... if all you can do is obey," he noted in an eloquent critique of the governing system that rules the island.

In his presentation, Antonini also said that "all those economic, social, and cultural indicators lose meaning if they do not have the muscle of freedom behind them."

Antonini's words sparked several comments that analyzed the current Cuban reality, backed by the opinions of Cubans who said they felt identified.

"The life expectancy in Cuba is high because the current elderly were the last from capitalism in Cuba, let the next generation come," argued an internet user.

“They offer you free healthcare and free education in exchange for your freedom and for not thinking about a system different from the one that governs... No thanks, I prefer freedom and to pay for my healthcare and education,” another person added.

"It's been a long time since health care in Cuba is free; if you're going to have surgery, you have to buy everything yourself and also pay to expedite the surgery," a user reported.

Antonini's content on social media and YouTube focuses on themes related to individual freedom and criticism of state interventionism. He addresses ethical values, critiques censorship, and the conformism that he believes characterizes today's society.
