Cuban content creator Jorge Drake has caused a stir on social media by sharing his astonishment after finding a Lada in perfect condition in Hialeah, Miami.
The video, which has already surpassed 6,000 likes in one day, shows Drake surprised by the discovery of the classic Soviet car, popularly known in Cuba as "ladrillo."
"My brother, you only find this in Miami... A brick! Look at this beautiful thing, my people," said @jorge_drake1992 while recording the car and talking to its owner, who told him that the car was from 1984 and that, despite having two modern cars and an ETZ at home, what he liked was the Lada.
Astonished by the excellent condition of the vehicle, the Cuban TikToker, who last July had shown himself riding his Suzuki AX 100 around Houston, where he lives, added: "You say they bring the backwardness here... No, my people, if you like things, you buy whatever you want."
The video quickly sparked a debate among users of the platform, where many praised the condition of the car and everyone's right to enjoy what they desire and use their money as they see fit.
"Apart from the bad comments, the little car is nice." "I hope they start selling Ladas and Moskovich at the dealers to fill this with beautiful cars." "That's taking Cuba in the soul." "A beauty of a Lada." "I wish I could have one; they have simple mechanics and are very strong blessings." "In Austin, there's a green one with the Cuban flag that looks really good, to be honest." "You know what? Everyone has their own tastes." "I am in love with those Ladas." "That's right, people will come out robbing, saying that if that’s stuff from Cuba and backwardness. If they like it, then let them enjoy it. People suffer a lot with others' tastes." "In Texas, there's a beautiful red one from a barbershop," some commented.
However, there were also criticisms and questions: "We're here, but it feels like we're over there"; "Tremendous garbage"; "Communist mentality"; "I don't criticize those who like those things, but I prefer my car to a Lada. Riding in a Lada is like riding in a Kamaz"; "A desire to continue in backwardness and a Lada is pretty? That's not pretty, man"; "That’s another communist just like you, a bunch working for the dictatorship"; "What a piece of crap"; "You only see that in Miami"; "I don’t understand how anyone can find a Lada pretty, it’s incredible," they stated.
The video of Drake ended with the owner of the Lada leaving, without giving him the much-anticipated ride in the car, which left many fans wondering if there would be a second chance. "Hey, you forgot to ask for the ride back," commented one user, to which the young man humorously replied, "I missed it."
In October 2023, it was the Cuban comedian Boncó Quiñongo who was seen driving one of these cars through the streets of the city.
