Cuban in the USA who welcomes newcomers: "Try to be a little more empathetic."

"If you are going to receive me, receive me but let it be clear, let it be a nice size."

The Cuban creator @carlitiktok4 published a video titled "Real story of the Cuban when they arrive in the US," in which he criticized the pressure that some Cubans in the United States exert on their recently arrived compatriots whom they host.

In his video, Carlito questioned why "everyone ends up buried" when a Cuban helps another who has just arrived in the country and mentioned that many hosts expect newcomers to follow their rules and adapt quickly. "You lay down the rules your way, and in at least two months, three months, people are no longer living in your house," the creator commented, questioning the expectations that hosts had for those who had just arrived.

Additionally, he referred to how newcomers were often described as ungrateful: "I took in so-and-so, what an ungrateful person he turned out to be, after I gave him shelter, after I gave him food." In that sense, he questioned whether, in reality, the problem did not lie in the attitude of those who welcomed them: "Could it be that you are the ones who get a little complicated when it comes to receiving someone?"

The creator also criticized the imposition of strict rules by the hosts, who expected newcomers to adapt to their expectations: "You want the people who arrive to do what you want." For him, this kind of attitude creates tensions and triggers conflicts.

He also called for empathy, reminding those who were already established in the United States that they also went through the same difficulties upon arrival: "The people who welcome you forget that they arrived the same way and that someone must have welcomed them." Several times throughout the video, he emphasized the importance of being understanding and giving space to newcomers: "Let people breathe," Carlito repeated, suggesting that newcomers should have time to adapt without too much pressure.

The debate about the dynamics between settled immigrants and the newcomers they welcome is common on social media.

And what do you think?
