They reduce the size of the bread in the basic basket in Cuba.

Now the bread will weigh 60 grams and cost 75 cents.

The Cuban regime announced the reduction in the size of the bread from the basic basket, which starting this Friday, September 13, will weigh 60 grams.

Anayra Cabrera Martínez, director general of industrial policy at the Ministry of Food Industry (MINAL), revealed that the low availability of wheat flour forces a decrease in the weight of the bread from 80 grams to 60 grams. The price also dropped from one peso to 75 cents.

The management explained that this is the only way they can ensure that the population can acquire bread daily and avoid the disruptions like those that occurred months ago.

However, he clarified that there may be delays, as flour is being transported daily to all destinations, and this requires a significant logistical effort.

Cabrera Martínez added that this is not a definitive modification, and that its objective is only to not affect production and try to ensure that bread reaches the population and social consumption.

He added that this decrease in weight does not have to mean a loss in product quality, which is why control over bakers will be reinforced to ensure compliance with the standards.

The leader detailed that to maintain the production of the allocated bread, it is necessary to use 700 tons of wheat flour daily.

At the press conference, it was also announced that the Cuban Bread Chain will continue the sale of subsidized bread, working alongside non-state management forms.
