Priest distributes bread in rural area of Santiago de Cuba: "We bring joy to withstand this difficult life."

For the Catholic priest Leandro NaunHung, sharing food is a way to bring joy amid the crisis that affects so many families.

The Catholic priest Leandro NaunHung distributed bread during a Sunday mass in a rural area of Santiago de Cuba, highlighting this gesture as a way to share joy and resist the harsh reality faced by Cubans.

NaunHung, in a video published on Facebook, expressed a message of hope and solidarity while distributing bread in a rural area of Santiago de Cuba: “We bring you a gift, we bring you bread,” said the priest, emphasizing that, amid the crisis affecting so many families, sharing food is a way to bring joy.

"Now that the bread comes so small, and that it may or may not come, or may someday come due to so much crisis," he added, emphasizing that celebrating the mass is a reason for joy and strengthening of faith, especially in times of great hardship, like the current situation, when people tend to turn to religion.

NaunHung emphasized the importance of solidarity in difficult times, mentioning that food, like the bread he distributed, is meant to be shared: "A party without food, what is it?"

In that sense, she recalled the effort of a parishioner, Margot, who prepared a stew with the few available resources, noting that "the Lord's day cannot be overlooked," even in the midst of scarcity.

With this gesture, the priest not only offered physical food but also a message of spiritual strength to withstand the harsh reality that many families in the region face.

Recently, NaunHung shared a video that shows the harsh reality of a family in the mountainous area of Santiago de Cuba, who survive, among other ways, by cooking stews based on purslane.

According to the Catholic priest, the mother prepared what he called a "survival recipe."
