Exchange rates in Cuba: What are dollars, euros, and MLC today?

The currencies are showing a trend towards stability, but the dollar is threatening to rise soon.

The price of foreign currencies remains unchanged this Thursday in the Cuban informal market, or at least that is what the monitoring documented by the independent media elToque reflects.

The dollar remains pegged at 320 CUP, the euro at 330, and the freely convertible currency (MLC) at 270, the latter price that the virtual currency reached on September 14.

Exchange rate today 09/19/2024 - 7:22 a.m. in Cuba:

Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP according to elTOQUE: 320 CUP.

Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP according to TOQUE: 330 CUP.

Exchange rate of MLC to CUP according to TOQUE: 270 CUP.

The median of purchase and sale values published this Thursday by the aforementioned independent media reveals, however, an increase of five pesos in the average sale of the dollar in the last 24 hours.

The average sale of the US dollar has gone from 330 to 335, which could indicate a possible price increase of the dollar soon.

Despite the stability in the informal market, prices remain high for the population, and indicators of the economic crisis affecting the island show that inflation and the shortage of foreign currency strongly impact the purchasing power of citizens.

In recent weeks, some have expressed dissatisfaction on social media with the statism of currencies. Others consider it a positive fact, and a third group is indifferent because these are currencies they do not have access to.

The US dollar reached 320 CUP on August 3, and since then, monitoring of classified ads that average its value in the black market has not shown any movement, according to elToque.

The European currency, for its part, reached 330 CUP on August 5 and has since not varied its average selling price.

The price stability in recent weeks contrasts with the sharp changes in the first seven months of 2024, characterized by fluctuating and abrupt periods of both price increases and decreases.

The unusual stability of the exchange rate in the informal market over the past four weeks has surprised many Cubans, who are trying to find an explanation for the phenomenon, which has not been addressed by elToque so far.
