Eight members of a Cuban family who had been unaccounted for since Wednesday, when they lost track of them at the Mariano Escobedo International Airport in Monterrey, have been located safe and sound, as revealed in recent hours by local Mexican media and the Efe agency.

"On September 22, 2024, the location of eight individuals of Cuban nationality was made known," stated the Attorney General's Office of the state of Nuevo León (FGJNL) in a brief statement cited by the Efe agency.

The official information added that "the individuals had been reported missing after their arrival at an airport in Apodaca, Nuevo León, on September 19, 2024."

The statement did not specify the location or the circumstances in which the Cubans were found, but it indicated that they are in good physical condition preliminarily, although they are awaiting a "medical examination."

Previously, the State Agency for Investigations (AEI) of Nuevo León had reported the disappearance of six adults (four men and two women) and two minors (aged six and four), all of Cuban nationality.

In the case of the women, it was detailed that she was five months pregnant.

The Cuban family - who have been identified on social media as being from Ciego de Ávila - were identified as Micher Jiménez Echemendía (76 years old); Yosvani González Leiva (53); Yereny Pompova Leiva (43); Onel Juan Samón Reyes (34); Heily Jiménez Pompova (25); Dairon Micher Jiménez Pompova (18) and the children Micher Onel Samón Jiménez (6) and Kimberlin Ylieg Samón Jiménez (4).

According to information previously disseminated by local media, the whereabouts of the eight Cubans had been unknown since September 18, the date when their relatives last communicated with them while they were at the Monterrey airport.

According to a report from the Telediario Monterrey channel, although nothing had been heard from the Cuban family since midweek, it was not until this Saturday that the Attorney General's Office of the State of Nuevo León - through the AEI - issued a search bulletin for the eight people.

The newspaper La Jornada provided some details about the missing Cubans. A report stated that Onel Samón is the husband of the pregnant Heily Jiménez; and they are the parents of the children Kimberlin Ylieg and Micher Onel.

It was also indicated that Heily and Dairon Micher are the children of the marriage formed by Micher Jiménez and Yereny Pompova; however, the family relationship of Yosvany González with the rest of the group was not specified.

According to La Jornada, the family had been residing in Tapachula, Chiapas for some time.

As of the closing of this note, there is no other information available about the case, which fortunately has had a good ending.

In recent years, amid the largest migratory exodus in the history of Cuba, a large number of Cubans have been victims of robberies, extortions, and kidnappings during their transit through several Central American countries to Mexico.
