A Cuban doctor who had been legally residing with his wife and their young daughter in Ciudad Madero, in the state of Tamaulipas, took his own life on Sunday while caring for his two-year-old daughter, local press reported.

The victim was identified as Dayán Viñas, 34 years old, who worked as a chicken loader at the Central de Abastos of the mentioned territory.

Viñas hung himself from a cable that he tied to the living room window of his home, taking advantage of the fact that his wife -Claudia Morales- was out of the family home attending classes at a beauty school in Tampico.

Upon arriving at the home, located in the Jardín 20 de Noviembre neighborhood of the oil city, the woman found the sad scene of her deceased husband while the younger child was playing in another room.

The wife of the deceased Cuban tried in vain to cut the cable that had tied him to the window bars, as her husband no longer had vital signs.

Claudia Morales -who had been married for six years- and her partner stated before authorities that Dayán Viñas had previously threatened to take his own life.

As of the closure of this note, there are no other details about the unfortunate incident.

Regarding this sad case, which brings sorrow to a Cuban family, the Mexican authorities have taken the opportunity to reiterate that early treatment of depression can prevent suicide attempts or their completion.

Those who need it can ask for help from the Lifeline, available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, at the phone number 800 911 2000.
