Havana D'Primera reports abandonment by Copa Airlines after diversion to Jamaica: "12 hours without information"

Cuban musicians stranded in Jamaica reported that the airline Copa has not provided them with any information about when they will be able to board another flight to Havana.

The renowned Cuban group Havana D'Primera reported this Thursday through their social media the abandonment they suffered from the airline Copa after their flight from Panama to Havana was diverted to Jamaica due to bad weather conditions caused by the proximity of Hurricane Helene.

Alexander Abreu, leader of Havana D’Primera, commented on Facebook that they had been stranded at the airport in Jamaica for over 12 hours without receiving information, food, or attention from the airline Copa.

"They put us on a flight that they knew could not land in Havana due to the strong gusts of wind," Abreu explained, showing his frustration at the airline's lack of foresight.

"We are stranded at the airport in Jamaica, Copa Airlines messed up," said the singer, who asked his followers to share the post to make the situation visible and to get a response from the airline.

Hours earlier, the artist held a live session in which he ironically pointed out that Hurricane Helene sent the group to Jamaica: "I believe today is the second anniversary of Havana D’Primera because we literally were born."

“That cup airplane went down in Havana during that storm, and we almost ended up in the neighborhood ‘facing up’,” commented the artist, using an expression that reflects the fear and danger they experienced during the attempt to land in the Cuban capital.

"We're okay," Abreu said: "Waiting for the storm to calm down and for another flight."

In another statement, a member of the group reported that at the airport in Jamaica, the airline Copa does not provide any information about when there will be another flight to Havana.

"They treat us as if we were nothing, neither customers, nor people, nor anything," he pointed out.

Additionally, the band member expressed their outrage at the lack of foresight on the part of the airline Copa, pointing out that they were boarded in Panama despite knowing that it was practically impossible to land in Cuba due to the weather conditions.

"They knew that landing in Cuba was not possible," he commented, highlighting the risk they were exposed to. "It was very dangerous, we almost died," he added, emphasizing the fear and seriousness of the situation.

At the beginning of the month, Abreu couldn't give it his all, as he is accustomed to doing for his audience, during a Havana D’ Primera concert in Cancún, Mexico, because he wasn't feeling well physically.

The leader of the Cuban group apologized to everyone present for what happened through the official social media account of the orchestra on Facebook.

However, in July he gave it his all in a performance he shared with El Micha at the Salsa Río Cuba restaurant in Havana.
