Cuban shows the serious flooding caused in Tampa by Hurricane Helene.

The city of Tampa, located in Hillsborough County, was one of the places that suffered the worst flooding on the night of Thursday and the early morning of this Friday.


A Cuban documented in striking images the flooding around his condominium in the city of Tampa, in Hillsborough County, where vehicles were floating and residents in the ground-floor apartments of his building had to take refuge on the second floor.

In the images shared from the Instagram profile of the influencer un Marti To Durako, another victim can be heard explaining that he had to work hard to rescue his gold chain from inside his vehicle, which was in the car.

Another video showed the moment residents in the area were evacuated in inflatable boats.

On the night and early morning of this Thursday, the Tampa Bay area experienced significant flooding and damage following the impact of Hurricane Helene in Florida.

Although it made landfall in the north of the state, the entire west coast experienced torrential rains, strong winds, and above all, flooding.

In another striking image shared on social media in the last few hours, a man was seen sitting in a kayak in the living room of his home, which was completely flooded.

The images that showed the surroundings of the Tampa General Hospital, located very close to the coast, were also shocking.

The sanitary enclosure was sealed very efficiently to prevent water from entering.

Rescues in Tampa

Unfortunately, the only fatality in Florida as a result of Helene occurred in the city of Tampa, after a pole fell on a moving vehicle, according to the Highway Patrol.

The severe flooding prompted the emergency teams from Tampa Bay to begin rescue operations following the impact of Hurricane Helene.

The mayor of Tampa, Jane Castor, reported that authorities had been responding to numerous emergency calls, especially in Davis Island, having received almost 200 calls since 2 a.m., according to local press.

By 6 a.m., 87 rescues had been carried out, which included the rescue of 47 people and eight dogs, using four Jon Boats to evacuate trapped residents.

Sergeant Rose Angelakopoulos of the Tampa Police provided an update in Spanish on the impacts of Helene in the city.

Mayor Castor also reported that 74,000 homes were still without electricity, with about 80 power lines down. She urged residents with electrical service to take extra precautions and avoid going out unnecessarily.

Helene made landfall on the night of this Thursday in the Big Bend region of Florida, as a powerful category 4 hurricane, accompanied by storm surges described as "catastrophic" and extremely dangerous winds.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) of the U.S. reported that the eye of the storm made landfall at 11:10 p.m. about 40 miles from Tallahassee, the state capital, just east of the mouth of the Aucilla River, and about 10 miles from the rural town of Perry.

After having intensified over several hours while moving through the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Helene made landfall with maximum sustained winds of 225 km (140 mph).

In the last few hours, Helene, which has left a temporary toll of five dead in four states, has been downgraded to a tropical storm.
