Alina Robert, finalist of Miss Universe Cuba 2024, has shared an emotional reaction after the results of the competition were announced, where Marianela Ancheta was crowned as the representative of Cuba in Miss Universe.
Through her Instagram account, Alina posted two videos in which she expressed her pride in participating in the beauty pageant and what it means to have been part of this historic event for the island.
In a post where she shared a short video of her parade in formal attire, where she is seen making the gesture of the L for liberty, Alina wrote: "Here, proud of the Cuban woman, I have the glory of having represented FREEDOM FOR CUBA." In her words, Alina expressed gratitude towards those who supported her during the contest, mentioning the jury members and the organization.
"Thank you [...] for the platform and for bringing the Cuban woman back to the arena of international beauty pageants," said the model, who concluded the post with the tags #SOSCUBA and #MissUniverseCuba.
In addition to this post, Alina had previously published a video in which, visibly emotional, she sang a cappella a fragment of the song "La agarro bajando" by Gilberto Santa Rosa. Then, unable to suppress her feelings, which were palpable even in her choppy voice, she said, "God must have another plan, thank you for so much affection, thank you for so much love; today was a beautiful night."
She also talked about the symbolic meaning of the crown: "that crown represents the tears of mothers who have lost their children at sea, that crown uncovers the frozen time in our island." Alina concluded by sending a direct message to her audience: "I want to thank you for accompanying me on this journey of Miss Universe Cuba. I send you a kiss from your Havana."
The model, who arrived at the contest with high expectations, had already shared her excitement in a video recorded shortly before the gala and uploaded to the stories of her Instagram account. In it, she reiterated her gratitude for the support received: "I am going to step onto the stage with my heart in my hand to represent us [...] we are 24 dreams on the stage," a message that reflected her enthusiasm for representing Cuban women in an international competition after 57 years without a representative from the island in Miss Universe.
The Miss Universe Cuba 2024 pageant was an event full of emotions. Marianela Ancheta, who arrived as the candidate from the Central Region, was selected by a jury of 17 personalities and was crowned as the next representative of Cuba at Miss Universe, which will be held in November in Mexico City. Alina Robert, who finished as the first runner-up, stood out not only for her beauty and elegance but also for the personal and patriotic significance she attached to her participation in this competition.
With her words, Alina Robert makes it clear that, although she did not win the crown, she leaves with the satisfaction of having made history and having proudly represented her country and its women, linking her experience in the pageant to a message of freedom for Cuba.
