A tragic traffic accident occurred this Monday on the busy José Martí Avenue, in front of the 18-story building in Santiago de Cuba.
Aris Arias Batalla, provincial director of Operations and Relief for the Cuban Red Cross, announced on Facebook that a motorcyclist collided with the rear right side of a Lada vehicle belonging to the Electric Power Plant Maintenance Company (EMCE), with license plate B 029752.
The motorcycle driver was immediately taken to Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital, where, according to preliminary reports, he does not have any serious injuries that would endanger his life.
He also indicated that the initial signs suggest the accident was caused by inadequate distance between the vehicles and a lack of attention to controlling the motorcycle on the road.
Both violations are identified as the main causes of the collision, as evidenced by the accident photos, which clearly show the damage to the rear of the vehicle, supporting this account.
Aris urged drivers to exercise caution, reminding them of the dangers of violating traffic regulations, such as alcohol consumption, racing on public roads, speeding, and performing stunts on highways.
However, this is a dangerous artery of the city of Santiago de Cuba, with a record of several accidents in its vicinity.
In August, an incident occurred at the busy intersection of Paseo de Martí and Avenida de los Libertadores.
The incident occurred near the iconic 18-story building on Avenida Martí and the Moncada Barracks, two landmarks in the city, as reported by journalist Yosmany Mayeta on Facebook.
Also nearby, another dramatic accident occurred in 2021 when a private cargo truck overturned in the landscaped hedge area of the junction.
"The truck was speeding up the hill on Paseo de Martí. It seems that it attempted to make a turn and overturned. The driver was taken out of the truck and received assistance right away, as all the fuel started to spill," reported a user from the Facebook group 'Accidents Buses & Trucks! For More Experience and Fewer Victims!'.
