In an effort by the government to alleviate the crisis in the supply of domestic fuel to the population, the delivery service of liquefied gas to homes began this Tuesday in Sancti Spíritus, although initially it will only be "as a trial" in part of that city.

Authorities reported that the sale of liquefied gas cylinders will be carried out through online channels, but only for customers residing in six urban areas of the capital city, initially.

José Alberto Martínez Quintana, head of the Gas Commercial House in the province, told the state-run newspaper Escambray that, for this "trial," the fuel marketing company Cupet has a reserve of cylinders that will allow them to replace the containers in the homes of customers who have requested it, but he noted that this will be possible "as long as there is product availability."

The official reported that on September 27th, the waiting room was opened on the digital platform Ticket, so that customers can request the replacement of the “balita.” However, he added that users must confirm the ticket on the indicated business days, through the advance payment of the service.

The home delivery of liquefied gas cylinders will be made in six areas of the city of Sancti Spíritus: Parque, Olivos I and II, Garaita-Olivos III, Kilo-12, Colón, and Jesús María-Carlos Roloff, Escambray specified.

The distribution will take place using two electric means of transport, through an active geolocation map that groups several areas. However, the note warns that "circulating in areas with road damage will be avoided."

When making the request, customers will provide the correct address of the residence where the delivery will take place, so they must activate the location option on their phone and select the location on the map. This last one must match the one indicated in the service contract.

The newspaper specified that the 10-kilogram cylinder costs 280 pesos, as it includes the delivery price to the home.

Payment for the service will be made virtually. However, in the event that the customer cancels the service after having paid for it or is not at home at the time of delivery, the state company will only refund part of the money, with a deduction of 100 pesos.

Last May, millions of Cuban families using liquefied gas for cooking faced a severe fuel shortage crisis due to the paralysis of its distribution and sale in the country.

In many homes that do not have electric stoves -also affected by the prolonged blackouts- families had to start preparing their meals with firewood or charcoal.

On May 31, the Cuba-Petroleum Union (Cupet) announced the resumption of rationed liquefied gas sales following the arrival of a shipment of fuel at the ports of Santiago de Cuba and Havana.

However, in June, the lack of liquefied gas continued to harm the population of the capital municipality of Sancti Spíritus, where the fuel was not sold for 18 days, affecting more than 10,000 customers.

In January, the Cuban government raised the price of liquefied gas cylinders purchased by around 1,700,000 customers in the country.

Users who previously paid 180 CUP for the gas cylinder began paying 225 pesos for 20 pounds of liquefied gas starting March 1, which represented a 20% increase in the price of the product, amid a severe economic recession that is hitting low-income families harder.
