Train number 17, which operates the Havana - Bayamo route, was stoned this Thursday, causing damage to the windows of seats 1 and 2 in car number two.
The National Passenger Trains Company reported on Facebook that the incident occurred at the exit of the Jobabo station, at kilometer 45 in Las Tunas.
The published report also stated that the incident occurred around 10:35 a.m., after which the police were notified and are currently investigating the matter.
"The statement indicated that those responsible are believed to be minors who were on the edge of the tracks when the train passed."
The entity noted that there were no injuries as a result of the incident, but there was damage to one of the "80 cars imported from China in 2019 as part of a plan for 240 that could not be executed."
The deteriorating train service in Cuba, impacted by a lack of resources and a crumbling infrastructure, is now facing acts of violence such as stone-throwing, endangering the lives of passengers and crew amid a context of rising social disintegration.
In May, the national train from Havana to Holguín was stoned while passing through the city of Santa Clara in the early hours of the morning, causing damage to a passenger car window.
The Union of Railways of Cuba announced on Facebook that at 1:00 AM, an incident occurred at kilometer 277.500 of the central line, near a sawmill, causing damage to one of the windows of a passenger car.
Not only trains are targets of vandalism. In April, several buses in Havana were stoned while on their regular routes.
A notice published by the Provincial Transportation Company of Havana reported on three incidents of stone-throwing on different routes.
In June, a man was arrested after throwing a stone at a state bus in Havana, which broke the bus's side window, according to the Provincial Transport Company of the capital.
The affected bus was the 613 from the El Calvario Terminal, which was struck by a stone while completing its route to the depot, according to the source mentioned on social media.
