Teenagers stone buses in Havana.

A group of students leaving school threw stones at bus 523, of the P-9 route of the Metrobús, at the FrutiCuba stop in Marianao. This year, vandalistic acts have been reported against several public transport vehicles.

In another act of vandalism against public transport, a bus was stoned this Tuesday by a group of students leaving school in Havana, according to reports on social media.

A post in the Facebook group “Transportación Habana TH” reported on the stoning of bus 523, of the P-9 route of the Metrobús, which covers the route between Santa Amalia, in Arroyo Naranjo, and the José Antonio Echeverría Technological University (formerly CUJAE), in Marianao.

"A group of teenagers were leaving their school when there was an act of stone throwing (vandalism) involving Bus 523 P-9, the incident occurred in FrutiCuba. There were only some minor material damages," the publication stated.

The report did not specify what damages were caused to the vehicle, but the photos show shattered glass scattered on the pavement, apparently coming from a window or the rearview mirror of the van.

A young man traveling on the bus stated that, after throwing stones at the bus, the teenagers "took off running."

In the comments, internet users condemned the act, blaming this type of behavior on the crisis of values in Cuban society in recent years, especially among younger generations.

They also lamented the material losses from attacks against the buses, which are vital for the functioning of the public transportation system, collapsed due to the decrease in the fleet of vehicles and the shortage of fuel.

“That is the result of a society with outdated values, where it manifests in social indiscipline, a lack of values, and care for social property; all coupled with a lack of rigor in the application of measures from our Penal Code (...). Greater rigor, demand, and discipline are required,” considered a user.

"How they destroy what little we have," criticized a woman, while another man was categorical in pointing out that "as long as the authorities are not strict with these young people, they will continue killing, assaulting, and robbing with complete impunity... and they will justify it by saying they are minors, and the authorities can do nothing to them."

In June, a man was arrested for throwing a stone that broke a side window of a public transport bus in Havana. The affected bus was the 613 from the El Calvario Terminal.

A month earlier, a bus belonging to the stop in the municipality of Regla that covered the A32 route (Palatino-Regla-Habana del Este) was stoned. As a result, the front windshield was shattered and the vehicle was sent to the workshop.

In April, several buses from the Provincial Transport Company of the capital were vandalized while performing their usual routes. The state-owned company reported three incidents of stone throwing on the A27 route from the Palatino Terminal, the A62 route from the Guanabo Terminal, and the 55 route from the La Lisa Terminal.

Days earlier, another bus that covered the A58 route had been stoned on Prado Street between Genios and Cárcel.

Railways have also been a target of vandalism. Train number 17, on the Havana-Bayamo route, was stoned last Thursday as it left the Jobabo station, at kilometer 45 in Las Tunas, an action that caused damage to the glass of seats 1 and 2, in car number two.

In May, the national train Havana-Holguín was also the target of stone-throwing while passing through the city of Santa Clara in the early hours of the morning. The impact shattered the glass of a passenger car, endangering the safety of the people.
