Blackouts offer no respite to Cubans: More than 1,200 MW deficit for this Thursday.

Blackouts continue to overwhelm Cubans, who spend long hours each day engulfed in darkness with no hope that the situation will improve.

On Wednesday, the service was affected due to a deficit in generation capacity for 24 hours and has continued throughout the early morning of this Thursday. The maximum impact was 1249 MW at 8:40 PM, higher than what experts from the Electric Union (UNE) had predicted.

This Thursday at 7:00 am, the national electrical system had 457 MW affected by capacity deficit, and by noon it is estimated that this figure will rise to 800 MW.

For peak hour, the UNE report forecasts an impact of 1264 MW.

There are four thermoelectric units out of service due to breakdowns and three others under maintenance.

In addition, 41 distributed generation plants are out of operation due to a lack of fuel, as well as the Patana of Santiago de Cuba and engines in the Patana of Mariel. In total, 307 MW are affected, 164 MW in distributed groups and 143 MW in the Patanas.

The limitations in thermal generation are 368 MW.
