Milton becomes a powerful category 4 hurricane.

Hurricane Milton continues to rapidly intensify, and on the morning of this Monday, it reached category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, fulfilling the worst fears of the authorities and the population of Florida.

"Milton is rapidly intensifying and has become a Category 4 hurricane. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 150 mph (240 km/h) and minimum pressure has dropped to 940 mb," updated the National Hurricane Center (NHC) on its social media at 8:05 a.m.

The evolution of the weather phenomenon confirms the potential risks posed by the powerful hurricane, which include storm surges, torrential rains, and destructive winds threatening the majority of Florida's counties, especially those along the west coast.

"The data from both Hurricane Hunter planes indicate that Milton has strengthened and has become a Category 4 hurricane. Maximum sustained winds are estimated at 150 mph (240 km/h). Milton is a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale," the NHC expanded on its website.
