Mass evacuations in Florida ahead of the imminent arrival of Hurricane Milton

Hurricane Milton causes mass evacuations in Florida. Catastrophic damage and power outages are expected.

Florida is facing massive evacuations ahead of the imminent arrival of Hurricane Milton, considered the worst to impact the state in the last 100 years.

Some roads have heavy traffic jams. Many people waited until the last day to make the decision to head to a safe area, and now they are desperate and vulnerable as the storm approaches.

Hurricane Major Milton continues its advance towards Florida, specifically towards Tampa, with category 5. It is expected to cause catastrophic damage and prolonged power outages when it makes landfall on the west coast.

Despite the great threat posed by Hurricane Milton, there are some people who refuse to leave their homes and have decided not to evacuate with their families, putting them in great danger.

President Joe Biden urged residents in the affected areas to evacuate immediately, warning that it is a "matter of life or death."

The National Guard has mobilized 8,000 troops and mandatory evacuations have been ordered in several counties, including Pinellas, where more than 500,000 people must leave their homes.

In Miami-Dade, which should not be one of the hardest-hit areas, since Monday, the mayor has requested voluntary evacuation for citizens living in flood zones, in mobile homes, and those with health problems with special needs.

The National Hurricane Center warned about dangerous storm surges, as well as torrential rains that could cause flash flooding.

Authorities warn that Hurricane Milton could be one of the most destructive in the history of the region, which is still recovering from the recent passage of Hurricane Helene.
