Cuban singer Alexander Delgado, member and founder of Gente de Zona, shared this Thursday on social media his deep sorrow after the official confirmation of the death of El Taiger, who had been hospitalized for a week at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
"In shock and with a broken heart hearing the news since last Thursday until today," Alexander wrote on Instagram, accompanying the emotional message with a picture of both smiling, evidence of the deep friendship that united both artists.
Delgado expressed his sorrow over the singer's passing, stating: “Everyone deserves a second chance, this was not the way for a warrior like you to leave, but as your rhymes said, you are 'A Fighter' and you fought until the end.”
He remembered the different facets of El Taiger throughout his career and highlighted that many knew him in various ways, but he pointed out: “We are not God to judge anyone. I hold onto the memory of José Manuel Carbajal Zaldívar that I met 20 years ago. Brother and the best in the world, as you yourself said.”
Alexander Delgado also highlighted the great loss that this death represents not only for his loved ones but also for the world of urban music: "Cubans, music, your colleagues, friends, and the genre have lost a great talent."
With an emotional closing, the artist sent his condolences and prayers: “Fly high and rest in peace, José, your music will live on among us.”
For his part, Randy Malcom, another member of Gente de Zona, expressed his disbelief on Instagram: “I still can't believe it... José, your music will continue to play on every corner.”
Next to a picture showing him sharing the stage with El Taiger, he wrote: “Today I say goodbye, remembering your joy and every moment of happiness we shared. All our prayers are with your family and loved ones. Fly high and rest in peace, José Manuel.”
The members of Gente de Zona join in the grief of many other artists who have shared deep condolence messages on social media.
In addition to the virtual spaces, hundreds of fans also gathered this Thursday outside the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where the prominent Cuban reggaeton artist died, to mourn his passing.
