Cuban Television reported this Thursday the death of José Manuel Carbajal Zaldívar, artistically known as El Taiger, one of the most recognized exponents of urban music on the island.
The news was announced during the one o'clock newscast, based on the note published by the Cuban Institute of Music on its Facebook page.
El Taiger, 37 years old, passed away in Miami, Florida, after suffering a severe gunshot wound to the head on October 3. The brain injury kept him hospitalized for several days, and the doctors were unable to save his life.
Known by his nickname "The Prince" during his time in the group Los 4, El Taiger started his musical career at the age of 17. He later founded the duo Los Desiguales and collaborated with internationally renowned artists like Bryant Myers and J. Balvin.
His solo career established him as a key figure in reggaeton both in Cuba and the United States, especially among young people, as he expressed the message on the aforementioned social network.
The Cuban Institute of Music expressed its condolences to the family and friends of El Taiger, highlighting his love for his country and his contribution to the urban genre.
By the family's decision, his body will be cremated in the coming days.
During this time, several Cuban institutions were attentive to the situation, including the Union of Young Communists of Cuba (UJC), which spoke out this Thursday on Facebook:
"Rest in peace, Cuban," was part of the brief message shared by the organization after learning about the singer's passing.
