A pigeon from Camagüey impresses at the Pigeon Racing Championship with its speed.

The pigeons receive training, a special diet, and the care of their breeders to make them the most competitive.

Pigeon fancying, the art of breeding and training messenger pigeons, is a hobby of growing popularity in Cuba, especially in provinces like Camagüey.

Last week, the anticipated Pigeon Championship kicked off in this region, an event that has captured the attention of fans and breeders from all over the country.

The Colombian Federation of Cuba has not confirmed that this dove is the winner of its province, but it is also not necessary, because it has captured the attention in the virtual sky of Cubans.

His name is Otani, he is a pigeon belonging to a breeder from Camagüey, who has drawn attention for the passion with which he trains and follows his pigeons. According to his owner, he managed to return to his loft in a record time, surpassing all the other participating chicks in the competition.

"You are the best, daddy! It's a horse! It's an animal!" is heard from Reinier Veloz as he looks at the sky and runs wildly across the roof of his house to greet his winning pigeon.

The pigeons were released in Placetas, Villa Clara province, and flew 210 kilometers to their home, in the city of Camagüey.

The man could not contain his joy; he jumped with delight while showing his pride for Otani's amazing performance and that of the other messenger pigeons on his team.

The intelligence and skills of messenger pigeons have fascinated humanity for centuries. These animals are capable of finding their way home from great distances, thanks to their keen sense of direction, which some studies suggest is linked to the Earth's magnetic field.

In ancient times, pigeons were used to deliver crucial messages, especially during wartime. Some pigeons have received medals for their contribution to the sovereignty of a country or their help in saving human lives.

The Camagüey Pigeon Championship is one of the most anticipated events of the year for pigeon enthusiasts in the central region.

Those who follow the sport of training pigeons for flight competitions give their animals the utmost care and attention. They ensure special diets and comfort for them to be the best.
