A Cuban truck driver from Miami was found guilty of murder after killing his co-driver and leaving the body near an interstate highway in the state of Indiana.
The crime dates back to February 2022, although it has only now been that a jury in White County, Indiana, has found the Cuban Miguel Ibarguren, 44, guilty of the murder of Aristides García, 63, a resident of Los Angeles, California.
García's body was found on March 8, 2022, in a ditch on Interstate 65, according to the Indiana state police.
Both men worked as co-pilots for a national trucking company based in Iowa.
García's body was discovered near a mile marker on the highway after his employer reported him missing since February 3, when the semi-truck was found without him.
After performing an autopsy on the body, authorities ruled on March 10 that the death was a homicide.
On March 13, 2022, a judge from White County issued an arrest warrant against Ibarguren.
Using various research techniques and thanks to the collaborative work of several agencies, the detectives were able to locate the Cuban in the city of Arlington, Texas, on March 15, 2022, from where he was subsequently extradited to Indiana for his trial.
The nationality of the victim has not been disclosed, nor the alleged cause of the crime.
"The Indiana State Police wishes to express its gratitude to all law enforcement agencies and the personnel involved in this investigation, whose hard work and collaboration were key to bringing the case to a successful conclusion," reads the statement released by White County.
The authorities have indicated that the sentencing is scheduled for next month, and that more details will be provided at that time.
