Tropical storm Oscar has just formed and threatens to impact eastern Cuba in the next 24 hours. According to the first official report from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Oscar will bring tropical storm conditions to parts of the southeast Bahamas, the Turks and Caicos Islands, and could affect the eastern region of Cuba, where an official alert has not yet been issued due to a general blackout that has left the entire country without electricity.

This massive blackout has interrupted both internet connectivity and communication channels, making it difficult to disseminate crucial information about the storm. Without access to basic services, the Cuban population faces the arrival of a potentially dangerous weather phenomenon without a clear warning or means to prepare adequately.

Heavy rains are expected to reach the eastern region of Cuba on Sunday, worsening an already precarious situation. Oscar, with sustained winds of 65 km/h and moving west at 21 km/h, has the potential to cause flooding in vulnerable areas.

So far, Cuban authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the storm, and the magnitude of the blackout is complicating efforts to coordinate an adequate response. The population is urged to take precautions, stay informed through any available means, and pay attention to updates from the National Hurricane Center.
