Willy Chirino, one of the most beloved and respected artists within the Cuban exile in Miami, spoke out through his Instagram profile about the difficult situation that Cubans are facing amid the current electric energy crisis.
"How many candles are needed to light up an entire country and bring it out of darkness?" is read alongside an image of the Cuban archipelago illuminated by candles that the singer published.
“How sad is it to see my brothers enduring so much suffering for so many years. But to bring the Cuban people out of darkness, what we need more than candles is to expel these heartless, indifferent henchmen who, to remain in power, are capable of sinking Cuba into an abyss. DOWN WITH THE DICTATORSHIP! LONG LIVE FREE CUBA!” wrote the salsa singer in the description of the post.
Another Cuban artist who spoke out about the situation in Cuba was Alexander Delgado, one of the members of Gente de Zona.
"Cuba once again without electricity for more than 24 hours and without freedom for over 65 years. Enough already! Get out of there and let my Cuba be free and prosperous as it should be! You are a system that never worked!" the singer stressed.
For his part, Leoni Torres also added on that social network: “How much longer does my people have to suffer? May God put His hand and let us finally get out of this inept government.”
For weeks, Cubans have been suffering from blackouts lasting several hours. On Friday, a general blackout occurred after the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant went out of service.
Again this Saturday, just hours after authorities stated that electricity was being restored, the National Electroenergetic System (SEN) collapsed completely once more.
