Several municipalities in the province of Guantánamo, affected by the passage of Hurricane Oscar, remain without electricity while recovery efforts continue, supported by various brigades from other areas of Cuba.
According to the Facebook post from the page “Miguel Noticias,” by official journalist Miguel Reyes Mendoza, the work scheduled for this Wednesday focuses on restoring the 33 kV lines in Baracoa and Maisí, following the arrival of personnel and equipment from Las Tunas, Camagüey, and Santiago de Cuba.
Efforts are also being made to restore energy to the municipal seat of San Antonio del Sur, and the repair of communications and electrical service in Imías has begun, with the help of groups from Santiago de Cuba, Las Tunas, and Granma.
In a television report, Eliazar Moreno Ricardo, a worker from the Unión Eléctrica (UNE) of Cuba, stated that in some areas they are still assessing the damage and emphasized that they have the necessary workforce to address the task.
"We want to restore the power as soon as possible," added Moreno.
However, it is worth mentioning that other areas of Guantánamo also suffer from power outages, but due to the energy crisis facing the island, as reported a few hours ago by the Electric Union of the province.
The phenomenon left Imías and other towns in Guantánamo cut off due to the heavy flooding that occurred during the passage of Oscar, which struck there as a hurricane, although it later downgraded to a tropical storm.
Until the last report, the passage of Hurricane Oscar resulted in the deaths of seven people and significant material losses in the easternmost territory of the largest of the Antilles.
