On the night of this Wednesday, several people were injured after the Nissan truck they were traveling in crashed into a utility pole in the Diez de Octubre municipality in Havana.
The incident occurred exactly at Úrsula and Destrampes, in the Sevillano neighborhood.
The force of the impact seems to have been such that the pole broke in two and the truck was left partially overturned in the street, according to several photos published in the Facebook group Accidentes Automovilísticos en Cuba.
The images showed that the truck -robust and green- had license plate K, used in Cuba by foreign companies.
The exact number of injured individuals and their clinical condition have not been disclosed. The aforementioned source only stated that "they were taken to the hospital."
The residents of the area were left without power after the electricity pole was damaged.
Until the closure of this note, there are no details about the circumstances in which the incident occurred, although some internet users speculated that speeding could have been a probable cause, as there are not many chances that a vehicle of that nature would have technical issues.
In another recent accident, the collision between a bus and a motorcycle took the life of a motorcyclist this Wednesday in Santa Cruz del Norte, Mayabeque province.
Although the population perceives an increase in traffic accidents in recent months, Cuban authorities stated at the beginning of July that in the first half of 2024, there were 543 fewer incidents recorded in the country than in the same period the previous year.
In the official television program Mesa Redonda, Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Traffic Body of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), also reported that there were 81 fewer fatalities (23%) and a reduction of 151 injured (5%) between January and June of this year, compared to the same period in 2023.
