An accident that occurred on the night of this Thursday in the city of Santiago de Cuba left a cyclist seriously injured after colliding with a Moskvitch for reasons that are unknown.

The news was initially reported by journalist Yosmany Mayeta, who published some photos of the scene.

Later, Aris Arias Batalla, in charge of Operations and Relief of MINSAP in the city, revealed that it happened on Trocha Avenue, corner of 8th Street, in the Mariana de la Torre Popular Council in Santiago de Cuba.

He identified the victim as Luis Enrique Monier Martínez, 43 years old and a resident of the Veguita de Galo neighborhood, who was the driver of the bicycle that collided with the blue Moskvitch, driven by the driver Alberto Martínez Garreta.

The official source specified that the cyclist was taken to the nearby Dr. Joaquín Duany Duarte military hospital, where he is reported to be in serious condition, with danger to his life.

"The driver of the Moskvitch underwent blood tests at the hospital to detect the blood alcohol percentage, and these were negative. Experts from the specialized center of MININT are investigating the causes of the unfortunate accident," concluded Arias Batalla.

Until the close of this note, there are no other updates on the clinical evolution of the patient.
