After inviting the followers of El Taiger to say goodbye to their artist this Friday at the El Sauce Cultural Center in Havana, Jorge Junior retracted and said that the final farewell to his cousin will be "among family."
In a live stream on Instagram, after landing in the Cuban capital, the leader of Los 4 said: “We are going to send off our cousin as he deserves, in style. We are already on the island, we are going to do something nice so he can have a good impression and rest in peace, brother. It will be something among family, something lovely.”
"It doesn't mean that entry is denied either, but well, the idea is that it should be something beautiful first so that later in the Colón cemetery, time is respected. We are going to set an example of discipline and love as we did there; if the one there turned out beautiful, the one here will turn out beautiful too," added Jorge Junior.
In a previous broadcast, Jorge Junior himself had said: “We will be in El Sauce, from 5 or 6, for all those who want to stop by and at least say their last goodbye.”
However, the Cuban Institute of Music announced in an official statement on Friday morning that "at the family's request, his ashes will be laid to rest in an intimate ceremony," a decision that generated displeasure among the artist's fans.
"Cubans want to say goodbye to El Taiger"; "Very sad all around. An artist like him, from the community, who at every moment acknowledged that it was his people who made him great, was here, who always defended, respected, and admired his audience in Cuba, those of us inside the island and who aren’t granted that privilege, seems unfair to me"; "I believe that to be fair, they can organize two moments, one family-oriented and another where the people can come to pay their respects; as has been done with important figures in the national music scene"; "It would be fairer and nicer for the Cubans whom he always defended to be able to say goodbye to him through song"; "I hope I am wrong and that State Security is not involved in preventing crowds. That family is humble to make such decisions"; "I am not against anything, but given who El Taiger was, I don’t understand this private ceremony; besides, the entire Cuban people will be there"; "I respect the family’s decision, but it is very sad that they don’t let his people give him a final farewell as he wanted," wrote some followers in the comments on the post.
