Two young people injured in an accident and hit-and-run in Havana: Family seeks help to locate the driver.

The accident occurred in Rancho Boyeros in the early hours of this Sunday.

In the early hours of October 27, two teenagers were seriously injured in Havana after being struck from behind on their motorcycle by a Kia Picanto, whose driver fled the scene after dragging them for several meters.

The accident -made known on social media by activist Nelson Álvarez (El Porfiao)- occurred on Boyeros Avenue, near the Rio Cristal recreational center.

The young people were coming from a nightclub when they were literally dragged by the modern vehicle, whose driver allegedly got out of the car to "unblock" them and continue on their way, according to a chilling account from the aunt of one of the minors.

“They were riding their motorcycle on their path, moving smoothly, when a car, traveling at a certain speed, crashed into them from behind. My nephew was the one coming behind, so the car hit the motorcycle and threw him off, dragging him along. The motorcycle got stuck to the car's bumper for a short distance,” recounted the aunt of one of the two minors who are hospitalized at the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Hospital in Havana.

Condition in which the motorcycle was left.

The woman stated that when she saw that the young people were blocking their way, the driver - according to the testimony of the young man who is in better condition - dropped the beer can he was holding and got out of the car.

“They unlocked the motorcycle for the defense, got into the car, and left. We don't know anything else,” said the relative of the young man who is in a coma in Intensive Care.

The young man has been identified by the aforementioned source as Lizardo Menas Oliva, 16 years old and a resident of Pocito Palmar in the Marianao municipality.

The family is seeking help to identify the driver of the vehicle, a gray, white, or silver Kia Picanto.

The young man who is aware—who is in Intermediate Therapy—explained that the car was a light color, but due to the low visibility at that time of night, he couldn't see it clearly.

He is sure it was a private car, as he recognized the letter P on the license plate.

Given the striking image that shows the condition of the motorcycle, it is evident that the vehicle involved in the accident must have visible damage to its front end.

The young people were helped by another couple who were coming from a distance. They got off the motorcycle they were riding, crossed the street, and assisted them.

As of the time of this note's publication, no further information is available about the incident.
