Fire affects 100-unit building in Miami Beach.

The Mid-Beach building, constructed in 1959, houses more than 100 units.

Miami Beach firefighters responded to a fire that spread Tuesday afternoon from a garbage container to the 12-story Executive building located on Collins Avenue.

According to Local 10, an object that fell from the building's waste disposal down to a street garbage container started the fire, which then spread and managed to climb up all levels along a side wall that was nearly completely burned.

Emergency units arrived at the location, 4925 Collins Ave., shortly after 1:00 p.m., according to dispatch records.

The Mid-Beach building, built in 1959, houses more than 100 units, according to real estate websites.

Images circulating on Instagram showed how the fire spread along the side of the 12-story building, while firefighters attempted to control the flames in two outdoor garbage containers.

"Currently, the building is undergoing roof renovations," explained a spokesperson for the Miami Beach Fire Department.

He clarified that "a hot object fell through the duct, igniting the fire in the container. Because the container is made of plastic, it caused burns on the exterior side of the building."

A section of Collins Avenue was closed while firefighters worked at the scene.
