Firefighters extinguished a small fire caused by a short circuit in the Inejiro Asanuma spinning mill, in the municipality of Gibara, Holguín, early this Thursday.

The fire started in the extractor room of the factory and was extinguished by members of the Fire Department, volunteer firefighters, members of the Red Cross, workers, and management of the industry, according to official sources on social media.

The incident "didn't escalate," and resulted in minimal property damage and no casualties, said Nayla Marieta Leyva Rodríguez, an official from the Municipal Committee of the Party in Gibara, on Facebook.

The reports did not specify what the damages were or whether they would prevent the state-owned company, commercially known as Gihilan Producciones and dedicated to the manufacturing of cotton yarn, floor blankets, cords, and other products, from continuing production.

Last Sunday, forces from the Fire Department and the Ministry of the Interior extinguished a fire that originated in the La Francia Moderna store, belonging to the CIMEX S.A. corporation, Cienfuegos branch, located on the central boulevard of the city.

At the beginning of the month, firefighters and security personnel extinguished a fire at the headquarters of the Gaceta Oficial de la República de Cuba publishing house, in Centro Habana, caused by the explosion of an electrical transformer at the entrance of the building.

A fire caused by the explosion of a scooter in a house in Old Havana at the end of September resulted in one death. Incidents generated by the explosion of the batteries of these electric scooters have become very common in Cuba.
