A Cuban woman in the United States reveals in a TikTok video how much she spends monthly on food and mentions where she does her shopping. In the recording, Mabele Padilla (@mabeleameliapadil) shares her passion for shopping, confessing that, if it were up to her, she would spend all her time in the markets.
"I actually do two big grocery shops a month," she explains, noting that she does them at Costco and Sam's Club, with the former being her favorite store for "being on another level." She also mentions other markets she frequents, like Food Lion and Aldi.
Mabele assures that, although she lives in the United States, at first she would only buy the products she was used to in Cuba, which is often the case for many other Cubans, although now she is more willing to try new things. Despite having a large family and frequently receiving visitors, she makes an effort to shop based on what they actually consume at home. "I don't usually use canned goods; I prefer fresh food," she clarifies.
Following a previous video in which she showcased her purchases, she received comments from people suggesting that she was missing certain products. In response, she respectfully stated that she buys what is consumed in her home. Adopting a philosophy of "buying to consume" rather than to accumulate, she reveals that she spends around $1,200 a month on food, including the purchase she shared in the video, which cost approximately $400.
This "frugal Cuban" considers herself a fan of Costco and admits that she makes small weekly purchases if she runs out of something. Her experience reflects the balance that many Cubans find as they adapt to life abroad, exploring new food options while still honoring their roots and culinary traditions.
"That monthly budget is great, I love your content," "Shopping is like rejuvenating," "Costco is the best," and "Great purchase" are some of the comments left for this Cuban along with the video.
