Cuban baseball player Yoan Moncada is drawing attention in the Major League Baseball free agent market, with around five organizations expressing interest in his services.
According to journalist Francys Romero on the social media platform Facebook, the former player of the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox appears to be a viable option for several teams, although it is likely to be a one-season contract.
At 29 years old, the player from the province of Cienfuegos is currently representing Cuba in the Premier 12 baseball tournament, which may slightly increase his visibility for teams seeking options to strengthen their lineup for the upcoming season.
In the last season, Moncada was sidelined for most of the time after suffering a groin strain on April 9 and then experienced several ups and downs in his rehabilitation process.
This includes a brief assignment to the minors, which was interrupted in July due to an increase in pain related to the muscular issue.
The third baseman has frequently dealt with injuries over the last four seasons, having played less than 220 games during that time. As a result, the White Sox declined the team's $25 million option, and he is now without a franchise.
