The Cuban-Canadian pianist Hilario Durán won the Latin Grammy for Best Arrangement on November 14th.
The award comes for his arrangement of "Night In Tunisia," a piece he performs with his Latin Jazz Big Band and the Cuban clarinetist and saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera.
While accepting the award at the ceremony, Hilario Durán thanked his wife for all her support and unconditional love, his family, and his mother for instilling in him a love for music, as well as the musicians in his band and Paquito D' Rivera.
A very special thank you went to Chucho Valdés, "for all his influences throughout almost my entire life."
"I also want to thank Canada for appreciating my art from the very moment I set foot in that wonderful country," said Hilario Durán while holding his gramophone.
Paquito D'Rivera was nominated in the category of Best Work/Contemporary Classical Composition, but the award went to the Mexican Arturo Márquez.
